Cornerstone Records Inc. is pleased to announce the release of Al Henderson’s fifth recording Taiga (CRST 138CD). Recorded in 2011 at the Canterbury Sound studio in Toronto, the recording features his regular quintet with Alex Dean (saxes, bass clarinet), Pat LaBarbera (saxes, narration), pianist Richard Whiteman and drummer Barry Romberg. The recording also documents the quintet with special guest artists, baritone saxophonist David Mott appears on three tracks while noted cellists Matt Brubeck and Mark Chambers, first heard with the septet on Regeneration (CRST CD132) return for three others. Icicles, a piece inspired by the American poet Robert Pinsky gives a preview of a series of pieces inspired by Pinsky’s poems to be performed and recorded at a later date.

The band will be performing compositions from his newly released Taiga CD along with several world premieres of recent compositions inspired by the poetry of three-time U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky.
